1. Classification, origins and habitat

The Middle White is a white domestic pig breed developed in Britain. It is a separate breed from the Large White.

It is a separately registered breed arising from British white-pig breeding. Its name is neither simply a smaller grade of Large White nor a statement that every individual is medium-sized. Origins and registered populations reveal the distinction from a general grouping of white pigs by appearance.

2. Appearance and identification

A short, upturned snout, white body and upright ears are characteristic.

Considering the short, upturned snout together with upright ears reveals an appearance different from the Large White and Landrace. Nose shape shows best in side view, while a frontal view can change apparent proportions. Observe with the photographed growth stage and posture in mind.

Comparing the short, upturned face and upright ears reveals an outline different from the white-bodied Landrace. A frontal photograph alone makes precise snout-length assessment difficult; consider side views and source information together.

3. Behavior and way of life

This traditional pig was selected for meat production. Middle in its name does not mean that every individual has the same size.

It was selected as traditional meat livestock and also relates to modern rare-breed conservation. Calling a short face cute differs from examining actual functions such as breathing and feeding. Breed appearance does not guarantee identical health or temperament in every individual.

4. Observation, conservation and care

When comparing it with the Large White, examine facial and snout form alongside build. Consider registration information together with actual adult condition.

Even with a short snout, consider pigs' needs to smell and investigate using it. Check comfortable eating, drinking and movement, and provide appropriate flooring, shade and rest. Pedigree conservation considers health records and diversity alongside reproduction of appearance.
